Note that there will be a total of 6 weeks off spread across the academic year for exams and holidays.

Novelly is on a mission to get e-books by underrepresented youth published and taught in the English classroom, so that every student can feel seen and inspired by what they read in school. What is the goal of the Publishing Director?

You will be working with the Research & Evaluation Director and Managing Editor (Programs Manager) of Novelly in order to continually update and improve Novelly’s digital library. In the Fall, you are responsible for collaborating with 10 youth authors and uploading their e-books with teaching resources on Thinkific in way that aligns with Novelly’s organizational goals and editorial guidelines. In the Spring, you are responsible for updating the e-book publications with any additional assets and producing a report on the performance of the Novelly library.

What is the role of the Publishing Director?

As Novelly’s Publishing Director, you will ensure that Novelly’s digital library of e-books serves the needs and expectations of authors, students and teachers. Your tasks include:

• Become an advocate for youth-authored literature, the authors who write them, the students who read and study them, and the teachers who teach them → oversee the publication of Novelly texts
• Align Novelly’s library on Thinkific with Novelly’s organizational goals, publishing strategy, and style and editorial guidelines
• Conduct a final review and close reading of youth author e-book submissions to ensure that they meet Novelly’s editorial guidelines
• Conduct a final review of book covers to ensure that they meet Novelly’s editorial guidelines
• Collaborate with each author in the current cohort to co-create one set of teaching resources per e-book in a way that honors the author’s voice
• Conduct a run-though with each author in the current cohort for final approval of the publication by the author
• Write a press release for each e-book to be used for communications and partnerships projects by other Novelly team members
• Upload the e-books with their accompanying teaching resources and press releases on Thinkific
• Monitor the Thinkific analytics data and survey data for the entire library and update on Notion database on a monthly basis
